AP Chemistry with Mrs. Kearney

This class is an extremely fast paced, challenging class dedicated to giving the experience of a freshman college chemistry class.  The year will culminate with the AP chemistry exam on May 7.

Students in this class are expected to read and outline the appropriate chapters in advance.  Additional material (notes) will be given in class, but these are only meant to review the material from the chapters.

Students will be given lengthy assignments at the beginning of each chapter and will be due on the day of the test.  These required problems should be done on lined paper. Problems are expected to be in numerical order, neatly done, with all work clearly shown in order to receive credit.  Students should expect to work on these problems daily in order to finish them by the test date.  No late homework will be accepted.

For each chapter there will also be an optional pretest available.  Although this is not a required, graded assignment, it is in the students’ best interest to take this pretest in order to get a feel for how they will do on the test.

Occasionally, actual AP questions will be assigned as additional homework.  These are to be done on lined paper, neatly done with all work clearly shown. Late work will not be accepted.

Tests will be given for every chapter (or sometimes 2 chapters will be combined).  The major portion of your grade will depend on your test performance.  If you are absent on the day of the test, expect to take the test the day you return.

Every lab experiment done in this class will have a required lab report which is due 1 week from the completion of the experiment.  Late work will not be accepted.

Grades in this class will be based on the following percentages:

                 Tests & Quizzes                                                   75%

                 Homework                                                            5%

                 Classwork/AP Questions                                 10%

                 Lab Reports                                                        10%
